Bring your nursing studies to lifeAre you an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander nursing student ready to turn what you’re learning into meaningful patient care? Join the CALHN nursing team as an Assistant in Nursing and gain hands-on experience alongside Enrolled and Registered Nurses. You’ll build your confidence, develop your clinical skills and make a meaningful difference for patients.
- This casual pool is open only to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander nursing students who meet the study requirements below.

About the Role
- Working within your scope of practice, you’ll support patient care and assist with nursing duties within your scope of practice.
- Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll learn on the job, care for people from diverse backgrounds and build relationships with patients, families and healthcare professionals.
- Guidance and mentorship will help you grow your skills as you continue your studies.
Who can apply?To be eligible for this pool, you must:
- Be a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Be currently enrolled in an approved nursing program leading to registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Have successfully completed and passed at least the first year of your nursing degree by your commencement date.
- Hold current student registration with Ahpra.
- Complete any training CALHN requires for safe and competent practice.
- Meet the other SA Health employment requirements in the role description.
This Pool is established under Section 65 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA) to redress the under-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the workforce. Only people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent are eligible to apply for the pool.

What you'll be doing
The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) role assists in the provision of basic nursing care, working within a plan of care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) within a team setting. AIN’s are not to be allocated their own patients. AIN’s are not to be assigned patients where one to one therapeutic nursing supervision is prescribed.
The AIN is responsible for assisting in the delivery of quality individualised care to patients at The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) within the guidelines set by the NSW Department of Health, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Framework, The SCHN – Division of Nursing and within the limits of the AIN position description.
The AIN will:
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

What you will be doing:
This position is open to qualified Advanced trainees in Geriatrics to practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Geriatricians to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to aged care.

There is opportunity for you to rotate through subspecialty training modules including orthogeriatrics, cognitive disorder clinics, surgical liaison service, psychogeriatrics, as well as a variety of community based Geriatric service initiatives.
The duration of the position is for one full year (twelve months), though many trainees would reapply in subsequent clinical years to continue their advanced training in the network to take full advantage of the training opportunities.
The SLHD Geriatric Medicine Training Network
All network rotation sites are part of the Sydney Local Health District. Sites for our Network rotations include: Concord Repatriation General Hospital, The Canterbury Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Balmain Aged Care Departments. All positions will participate in rotations allocated across the training network. Each rotation is approximately of 3 months duration.
The SLHD Geriatric Medicine Training Network encompasses the Aged Care departments and facilities of the Sydney Local Health District, covering the Sydney and Inner West Local Government Areas of Ashfield, Burwood, Canterbury, Canada Bay, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Strathfield, and part of the City of Sydney.
This training network is accredited for three years of Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training by the RACP Geriatric Specialist Training Committee in recognition of the training opportunities available.
Where you will be working:
You will be based at one of the SLHD hospitals for each rotation. SLHD hospitals include Concord Repatriation General Hospital, The Canterbury Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. All positions will participate in rotations allocated across the training network. If allocated to a community term you will experience outpatient care, community home visits, Residential Aged Care Outreach.

What you'll be doing
The Advanced Trainee will, under supervision, provide effective medical services within a patient-centric geriatric model of care to patients, while developing expertise in Geriatrician-led interdisciplinary care and management practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Advanced Trainee will have the opportunity to rotate through subspecialty modules within Geriatric Medicine including orthogeriatrics as well as acute and subacute patient care
This position is accredited with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the appointment can be made for up to two years. The position may involve a rotation to Shoalhaven which will include community and outreach plus acute inpatients and orthogeriatrics.

acute and subacute geriatric issues, working also in RACF outreach, clinics and rehabilitation at War Memorial
Hospital.
Position 5 Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.
Wagga Wagga Base Hospital - This position will have both clinical and academic components. It will expose the
person appointed to the challenges and the rewards of working in both a busy city hospital as well as in parts of
rural regional Australia.

About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, Residential Aged Care Services (RACS), the Deputy Operations Manager supports the effective operational management of SVHM Residential Aged Care Services, including Berengarra, Auburn House and Prague House. The Deputy Operations Manager (DOM) provides direct leadership and management to the RACS Lifestyle and Administration Teams and acts as the key liaison with Allied Health services to support coordinated, person-centred care and resident wellbeing outcomes. The role works collaboratively with Clinical Managers, the Director of Nursing, Business Manager, Allied Health professionals and broader multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of safe, person-centred, high-quality care that meets all legislative, regulatory, accreditation and organisational requirements. The DOM acts on behalf of the Operations Manager as delegated and provides operational leadership to support service excellence, staff engagement, and achievement of strategic and operational objectives.
Classifications for this position will range from Grade 5 Allied Health OR for Nursing (ZB7) ($150,000 - 160,000 per annum plus super).
Your Contribution
• Support the Operations Manager in the day-to-day operational management of Residential Aged Care Services.
• Provide direct line management and oversight of the Lifestyle and Administration Teams, ensuring effective delivery of resident lifestyle and wellbeing programs and administration functions.
• Acts as the key liaison between the service and Allied Health (AH) teams, facilitating communication, coordination of care and collaborative service planning.
• Act on behalf of the Operations Manager as delegated, including participation in relevant meetings, committees and service reviews.
• Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of operational plans and improvement initiatives.
• You will hold current AHPRA registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, without notations on the register, and a current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, or be willing to undergo an NDIS Worker Screening Check.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A tertiary-level healthcare qualification.
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Current satisfactory National Police and NDIS clearance checks.
- Previous operational management experience within a healthcare setting, preferably within aged care.
- Extensive clinical leadership experience and knowledge, preferably within residential aged care or a similar service.
- Highly developed leadership and organisational skills, with demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary staff and functions.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- An understanding of the Aged Care Act, Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and contemporary aged care reform agenda.
- Experience supporting quality improvement, accreditation, audit preparation and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- A strong commitment to person-centred care, resident rights and consumer engagement.
- Commitment to the Mission and Values of St Vincent’s Health Australia.
- A postgraduate qualification in healthcare or business administration is desirable.
Enterprise Agreements
This position may be covered by one of the following Enterprise Agreements, depending on the successful candidate’s professional background and classification:
- Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024–2028, or its successor.
- Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Health Sector) Single Interest Enterprise Agreement 2021–2026, or its successor.
Additional Requirements
This is a Category A position under the SVHM Employee Health Screening and Immunisation Policy. Appointment is subject to meeting applicable immunisation requirements.
The successful applicant will also be required to provide a current National Police Certificate prior to commencement and maintain appropriate NDIS Worker Screening clearance where applicable.

The Eurobodalla Regional Hospital (ERH) is a new hospital currently under construction on the stunning Southern NSW coast, set to open in 2027 bringing state-of-the-art facilities and expanded services to the region.
Located in south-east Moruya, under four hours drive from Sydney and only two hours from Canberra. ERH will be larger than both the current Batemans Bay and Moruya hospitals combined. Designed with future growth in mind, ERH has the capacity to expand as the needs of the community evolve.

What you'll be doing
The Assistant in Nursing works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, supports the nursing team in the delivery of person-centered care in collaboration with individual/s and the multidisciplinary health care team to achieve people focused quality care.
Selection Criteria
- Current Health Service Assistant Certificate III (Acute Care) or equivalent, or having recent equivalent experience or have completed 1 or more year's training as an undergraduate nursing student.
- Demonstrated understanding of delegation and ability to work within a plan of care under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse.
- Demonstrated ability to provide person-centered care in a manner that respects the rights of individuals and groups in the context of a multi-disciplinary team.
